Associate Membership of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL)

EMBL is the most cited scientific institution outside of the USA in molecular biology and genetics, with an extremely high impact of an average of 51.9 citations per paper (ISI Science Indicators 1992-2002). ARMI is the home of EMBL Australia. The laboratory group hosted at ARMI will be the first of several groups operating according to the EMBL philosophy: scientists in these labs must move on to other institutions after nine years to ensure a regular injection of fresh scientific thought.

The benefits of EMBL partner laboratory groups include:
  • Attracting high calibre international scientists to Victoria.
  • Providing an incubator to train and produce outstanding young career researchers in Victoria.
  • Developing sustainable links with research centres in Europe.
  • Improving research quality and outputs.

Associate membership will assist Australian researchers at the coalface by providing:
  • Access to state-of-the-art infrastructure and technologies, expertise and networks in Europe.
  • New opportunities for Australian researchers to forge collaborations with European researchers and institutions.
  • Access to European funding opportunities.
